The 2026 London Australian Film Festival’s family slot celebrates the 15th anniversary of the much-loved RED DOG, starring Koko the Dog in the title role.
A massive hit in Australia, this adaptation of the book by Louis de Bernières is based on the legendary true story of a free-spirited red kelpie who united a disparate local community while roaming the Australian outback in search of his long lost master.
As well as being a bonafide classic, this film has plenty of LAFF pedigree, with both the prequel and spin-off documentary playing at previous festivals, and the original opening our predecessor fest back in 2011. Whether an old family favourite, or a first time watch, expect plenty of laughs, lots of drama, and maybe even a few tears - a treat for the entire family!
Also screening will be a short film from the Australian Film Television and Radio School.
The 2026 London Australian Film Festival runs from 16-19 July at Finsbury Park Picturehouse.
Aussie snacks, sweets & gifts will be on sale in the foyer throughout the festival, with a raffle taking place before every screening.
With thanks to Nelson Woss.
REVIEWS:
“An instant Aussie classic, Red Dog holds up extremely well on a second viewing and should not be missed by anyone who cares about just how good Australian films can be.” - Jim Schembri, The Age
“These days, when the market in family films is so thoroughly dominated by the wonders of CGI, it comes as a cheering surprise to find one that makes such beguiling work out of an idea that goes all the way back to the adventures of Lassie and Rin Tin Tin.”
– Sandra Hall,
Sydney Morning Herald
