The London Australian Film Festival is proud to present the UK Premiere of THE WAY, MY WAY, a charming and captivating true story of one man’s journey along the Camino de Santiago, adapted by Bill Bennett (Kiss or Kill, The Nugget) from his own memoir.
Anchored around a brilliant central performance from AFI/AACTA award-winning actor Chris Haywood (Newsfront, Breaker Morant, Muriel’s Wedding), the film follows an stubborn and amusingly self-centred Australian man as he decides to walk the 800 kilometre-long pilgrimage route through Spain. He doesn’t know why he’s doing it, but one step at a time, it will change him and his outlook on life forever.
A surprise hit at the Australian box office, The Way, My Way
has been described by Camino elder statesman Johnnie Walker as the most authentic film ever made about the Camino. A humorous and life-affirming film that will nourish your heart, mind and soul.
With thanks to Bill Bennett and SC Films International.
WHY WE CHOSE THIS FILM
Laila (LAFF director): “I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to include this gem of a film in the festival - I was ringing everyone I could in order to lock it in. Heartwarming & hilarious - Chris Haywood absolutely nails the lead role - a truly irritating character who's journey across the Camino will have you roaring with laughter and whooping for joy. In these troubling times this is the kind of film we all want and need.”
Stephen (LAFF co-programmer): "This quiet, unassuming film totally won us over, not least thanks to a wonderful performance from Aussie screen legend Chris Haywood, who really brings to life this story of walking the Camino de Santiago, based on the memoir by Australian filmmaker Bill Bennett (Spider and Rose, Kiss or Kill, The Nugget).”
REVIEWS
“a well-paced film that seems to be in no hurry at all, extolling an appreciation for life’s simplest pleasures: walking, talking, imbibing.”
Luke Buckmaster (The Guardian)
“This is a quiet, gentle, uplifting film about freeing oneself from the everyday and discovering the comfort of strangers”
Stephen Romei (The Australian)
