Survival of Kindness

Hot on the heels of the European premiere of witty indie romcom, ALL MY FRIENDS ARE BACK IN BRISBANE at this summer’s London Australian Film Festival, we take you back to where it all began!

Come see the original cult classic, 2007’s ALL MY FRIENDS ARE LEAVING BRISBANE, followed by its spiritual sequel in a special double bill event, followed by an in-person Q&A with the films’ writer, Stephen Vagg.

A perennial tale of talented young folks fleeing their home town for pastures supposedly greener, All My Friends are Leaving Brisbane follows 20-something Anthea (Charlotte Gregg), who hates her job almost as much as she hates seeing all her friends moving away. Meanwhile, All My Friends are Back in Brisbane picks up the thread twenty years later, when lawyer Cris (Nelle Lee) returns home to the Sunshine State after a long spell in London, and must contend with the lives (and loves) she left behind.

Rarely screened together, both of these films have been deftly directed by Louise Alston (
Jucy, Back of the Net), from sparkling scripts by Stephen Vagg (Neighbours, Rock Island Mysteries), who joins us after the screening to chat about comings, goings, and all things Brisbane.

Aussie snacks, sweets & gifts will be on sale in the foyer before the screening.

With thanks to Stephen Vagg and Louise Alston

REVIEWS:

a charming and witty dramedy” - Lloyd Marken, Scenestr

...a rom-com told in a uniquely Australian way: heartfelt, very funny, and tragically honest. It manages to capture the specific “Brisbane vibe” while remaining universally relatable to anyone who has ever wondered if they can truly go home again.” - The Urbanite
