The untold story of a true Aussie music icon.

Tracing the incredible highs and lows of John Farnham's career, and ultimately to 1980s mega stardom, and record-breaking success as ‘Australia’s Voice’.
The London Australian Film Festival is proud to present the UK theatrical premiere of a film recently crowned highest grossing Australian documentary of all time, JOHN FARNHAM: FINDING THE VOICE.

The untold story of a true Aussie music icon, this first authorised biopic follows Farnham’s life from the quiet suburbs of Melbourne to 1960s pop success. It traces the incredible highs and lows of his career, and ultimately to 1980s mega stardom, and record-breaking success as ‘Australia’s Voice’. Nobody ever questioned that Farnham could sing - but the challenge to find his artistic voice and become Australia’s most trusted and beloved performer took half a lifetime.

This powerful documentary tracks the personal and public journey that has made Farnham Australia’s most beloved musical artist. Featuring interviews with Olivia Newton-John, Jimmy Barnes, Celine Dion, Richard Marx, Robbie Williams, Daryl Braithwaite, Glenn Wheatley and many more, this is a must-see on the big screen for Aussie music fans.

As part of the AFTRS x LAFS dual 50th celebration, Melvin Kwong’s 2023 AFTRS short, THE LAST DONUT, will play before JOHN FARNHAM: FINDING THE VOICE.

WHY WE CHOSE THIS FILM:
Laila (LAFF Director): “Hot on the heels of the fantastic news that John Farnham has recovered from throat cancer, let's all get together and celebrate this wonderful and talented man. His 1986 song You're the Voice was a hit all around the world - and our raffle will have a Luckyvoice voucher so you can go karaoke your heart out!!”

Stephen (LAFF Co-Programmer): “John Farnham might seem like a one-hit wonder to British audiences, but his music has an enduring legacy in Australia. This documentary chronicles the highs and lows of his career, and demands to be seen on the big screen (and with big sound!).”
